twittertips

You may have heard that a lot of Internet marketers use Twitter in order to connect with other Internet users and to market their products or services. That information is true as a lot of online entrepreneurs have turned to social media over the past few years so that they can reach out to more people on a simple platform.

Even though this is the case though, there are certain things that Internet marketers should not do on Twitter. If a person uses it in the wrong way, they could actually be hurting their business rather than helping it. Here is what not to do if you use Twitter for Internet marketing:

  • Do not simply just post links back to your website or your affiliate products if you happen to be an affiliate marketer. Posting a link or two a day is generally not seen as spam (though someone could still report you for spam), but simply posting links does not give your follower any reason to click the link. If you do not provide any reason or excitement when it comes to the link that you post, then it will not entice people to click it.

  • Still dealing with links, do not post more than one or two a day as you could get reported for spam. As noted above, someone could report you even if you post a low number of links, which is why it is important to make the links worthwhile to click. If all you’re doing is posting links in order to try and make money, then you will be labeled as a spammer and people will not trust you or your business. You will probably also notice that people will stop following you as well.

  • You need to keep your followers engaged. It is important to reach out to people and interact with them on a personal level, just as long as you are not getting too personal. You should keep interactions professional and have a separate profile for you to connect with your friends. To summarize, don’t just post links; post things that will engage your followers so that they want to know more but feel you are on their level.

  • Do not post links to things that are unrelated to your business or that people might find offensive. For example, if you market an E-book on website optimization, don’t post a ton of links about your favorite sports team. Every now and then will not hurt but you will want to keep it relevant and once again professional.

There are plenty of things that people should not do on Twitter that can ruin their business reputation. Just make sure you are using common sense and remember to follow a few simple guidelines.
