What Makes A Candle Dripless
The long sloping shape of taper candles makes them one of the most beautiful decorations you can use throughout your home or on your table. However, with that shape comes a problem that many have probably never considered. As a candle burns, the most efficient of wick designs will almost eliminate drips from pouring down the sides, however there is still room for improvement. Dripless candles have been developed to eliminate the unsightly and potentially hazardous drips that run down the sides of your table centerpieces or home decorations.
Making a dripless candle involves two very precise steps. The first, as mention requires researching and testing the perfect wicks for each type of wax used. Things like the wick’s thickness, the way that it is braided, and what chemicals it’s treated with all have to be factored. However, the real magic happens in a double dipping process utilizing two different types of waxes. The bulk of the taper candles are made with general candle wax with a melting point of around 130 degrees. However after the candle has been formed it is dipped in a wax with a much higher melting point. This outer shell creates a basin for the inner wax to sit, melt, and burn away before it can drip down the sides of the candle.
Where To Use Dripless Candles
Dripless candles can be used anywhere to instantly improve the appearance and safety of your centerpieces. However, they are particularly helpful in two instances. The first is for formal events where a candles appearance is of the utmost importance. For example unity candles, or baptism candles should always be dripless. Secondly, anytime candles are hung, for example in a chandelier, dripless candles should always be used for the safety of your guests, especially if it is over an overhead candle holder like a sconce.
