If you are looking to increase visibility for your blog, make sure you include Facebook in your self-promotion strategy. Millions of people log into Facebook everyday, often more than once a day. Getting your site or blog linked to the social network can draw valuable targeted traffic to it.
The easiest way to connect your WordPress blog to Facebook is by adding Like or Share buttons on your blog. These are small buttons that appear on each post (and/or anywhere else you want) that visitors can click when they want to share that post or let their friends know they “like” the post. Because it only takes a click or two to use, many readers will click such a button without a thought. A story will then appear to their friends on Facebook about your blog.
Don’t try to manually insert codes into your posts. This is not only a hassle, but if you change your mind later after editing all your posts, you would have to manually edit each one again. Instead use WordPress plugins. WordPress is so widely used that you can find a plugin for just about anything short of taking your dog out for a walk. Go to the WordPress Plugins Directory at wordpress.org and search for a plugin you want such as “facebook like.” Often you will find more than one plugin that does the same thing.
To get a plugin, click Download and save the file to your computer. Log in to your WordPress admin, click Plugins > Add New > Upload. Now select the plugin you just saved and upload it. Click Activate and then look in either Plugins or Settings on the left menu for a configuration link to set up the plugin.
Each plugin has settings you can control such as where to position the Like or Share button (e.g. above or below the post content) and which graphics to use. When choosing a position for your buttons, do not place them too near advertisements such as Google AdSense. You do not want people to click your ads by accident, or appear as if you want that to happen.
Now when you post an article that a Facebook user finds interesting, say a full list of emoticons for Facebook, they can share or “like” that post if they are signed in to their account.
