Dripping irrigation systems are wonderful in conserving water and saving money. Whether you already have an in-ground sprinkler system or you are just starting out with a drip watering system, drip system kits are ideal for creating a DIY garden irrigation system.

Dripper system kits generally come with most everything you need to set up and run your very own dripper irrigation system. Drip kits usually have drip tube, water emitters or drippers, tubing stakes and tube fittings and adapters.

Many drip irrigation kits do not have supply tubing so that needs to be purchased separately. Also, tools such as a tubing cutter and hole punch tool or punch gun may be needed in addition to what already comes in the drip kit.

Drip irrigation tubing comes in several different varieties, sizes and lengths. From porous soaker tubing to drip line with pre-drilled holes to standard flexible drip tube, there are many choices.

Soaker tubing does not require drippers or micro sprinklers of any kind. It has pores that sweat water at a uniform rate for even watering coverage of flowers and plants.

Sprinkler drip line can come with pre-drilled holes that are usually spaced six inches apart. This makes it easy to install water drippers or emitters without the hassle of having to punch holes yourself.

Standard drip tubing is flexible and does not have any pre-drilled holes or pores for soaking. You can easily customize this type of irrigation drip tube to meet your needs and punch holes exactly where you need to put micro sprayers.

Generally, irrigation drip tubing comes in standard sizes such as ¼- and ½-inch and usually comes in lengths of 50, 60, 100 and 500 feet. You can easily cut the drip hose to meet your garden’s watering needs.

Dripper irrigation kits should include micro sprinklers or sprayers. There are many different varieties and you may need to purchase additional water drippers to meet your garden’s needs.

Drippers and emitters provide more of a soaking drip than an actual spray. They generally cover areas up to two feet and are perfect for plants and areas with shrubs.

Micro sprayers or drip sprinklers can cover areas up to about 10 feet in diameter. They are ideal for vegetable gardens and areas with flowers.

Drip irrigation system kits also have loop stakes or tubing stakes. These are used to secure drip irrigation line to the ground so they do not flop or flail with water pressure.

Another set of items you will find in a drip kit is tube fittings and adapters. Fittings such as tubing tees and elbow fittings allow for connection to supply tubing as well as routing and branching of drip lines to different areas of your yard or garden.

Some dripper system kits also have tubing adapters that allow you to attach drip irrigation parts to an existing sprinkler system or to a standard hose faucet. This makes it easy to connect your micro sprinkler system to a water source.

Not included in a drip kit but important nonetheless is an automatic timer. If you already have underground Orbit sprinkler systems that are automatic then this should not be a problem.

However, if you are installing a new water drip system on a garden hose spigot, you might want to purchase an automatic water timer. Watering timers automate lawn watering so you conserve more water and save more money.

With a water timer, you do not have to worry about forgetting to water your plants and flowers and you can schedule yard watering only when it is needed. Automatic sprinkler timers allow for seamless and hassle-free garden watering.

You can create a functional Orbit drip irrigation system with a drip system kit. Save money and conserve water by installing a do-it-yourself micro sprinkler system for your garden and lawn watering.
