We all know that little girls love beadwork but so too do little boys until they realize that it is cooler to play football. They may not want to make necklaces but they will like sticking beads into clay. They will also enjoy making different bead shapes using sour dough or self drying clay.
You can buy a large amount of plastic beads for very low cost and it will keep them amused for hours. It is important to stimulate all a child’s senses. Their sense of creativity and free thinking is just as important as their learning to read or do math. It is our personalities that make us unique. Childhood is a learning process but kids learn best when having fun. You would be amazed how much progress they can make in math and English when you take them away from the books. Counting beads will help their math and learning their colors will help their English and spelling.
In the summer time you could let your daughters decorate their sandals with beadwork. You could buy them a couple of pairs of inexpensive flip flops and let them decorate them with flowers or birds made from beads. They don’t need to use tools as they can glue the beads in place. They could design matching necklaces and bracelets too. It is quite common for girls of a certain age to have friendship bracelets made from small seed beads.
Some girls will like to sew beads onto cushions and other fabrics. They may be studying beadwork at school and have to complete certain projects. You should encourage them to be as creative as they want. You can always help them with any difficult bits and teach them how to use any tools that are required. Never try to limit a child’s creativity. Kids believe they can do anything and our job as parents are to try to let them believe this for as long as possible while ensuring their safety.
