It’s easy to get excited about the idea of starting your own blog and making money on it, but you have to prepare for the stress that such an endeavor is going to cause you. The only way you are going to get your own websites to make money for you is if you spend a lot of time turning them into well-loved, quality sites that offer a lot of value to people who find it. Many tutorials online that teach you how to start a blog will not comment much on the fact that, when you phone in your work, you will make less progress, and therefore will affect your overall site income.

In a way, you are trading in the boredom of a day job for the high stress work of a website. Are you prepared for the trade in? If so, then the first thing you need to put together is a work schedule that works for you. Many successful entrepreneurs do their writing first thing in the morning, before they do anything else, even check email. This way they know they will get at least an hour worth of work in, and even if they are unable to get anything else done that day, they will rest assured that they got something done.

Is this because they are lazy? Not at all! It may be hard to believe if you’ve never worked on your own before, but working from home can be an extremely difficult thing to do. Motivation, once lost, is very difficult to get back that same day. Occasionally someone may find it easier to work later in the day, but you may want to start trying with the morning.

What exactly should you work on? Try writing one or two posts on your website each day as a start. These posts should each target a keyword, so Google will able to clearly figure out what they should rank it for. You could also work on getting some backlinks for each of these posts. Find related sites online that you could write a guestpost for, or maybe find forums related to your topic, and you will soon have a collection of links that are sending traffic, and also allow Google to rank you well.

This is just one of the many topics related to website building. For dozens of other tutorials, from basic free websites to monetization, visit Website Obsession and browse around.
