With the rapid increase in the use of internet all over the world, world music is increasingly gaining popularity as music from different parts of the world are now easily accessible to various interested listeners.

Modern Eritrean music is the result of political movements which initiated in East Africa in the early sixties. Psychedelic rock and western soul tunes were the major influences of the music. The kobar, krarr, lyre and a violin like instrument called the wata are the commonly used instruments to create this music. Dances by music passionate people are also a major part of conventional Eritrean music. Usually, the dancers gather in circles to move around in a rhythmic style during live performances.

Bereket Mengisteab, Abderrehim, Ato Abirha Segid & Alamin Abdeletif and Yemane Baria are some of the most popular Eritrean musicians. With the use of a unique horn section, Eritrean music grew more like Ethiopian music with the passage of time.

Ethiopian music is a distinct music impacted by ethnic folk from Somalia and other African highland regions. The music is traditionally played on chordophones (a string instrument), idiophones (a gong-like instrument), aerophones (a horn instrument), and membranophones (a kind of hand drum). The music has been transformed and grown with the integration of blues licks and Western jazz. Drumming, hand clapping, and rattles are also an important part of conventional Ethiopian music. This is a practice taken from a pre-colonial Christian faith – Ethiopian Orthodox Church having members around 40 to 45 million people.

According to music fans, the flute laden is the best part of the music. Most of the fans sing the praises of the famous Mahmoud Ahmed, who is probably the most renowned Ethiopian musician. Teddy Afro, Betty Rock, Aster Aweke, Maki Siraj, and Ali Birra and many others are other famous artists.
