Shampoos tend to work best when they have a product included in their list of ingredients which breaks down the surface tension of water that enables it to better penetrate your hair and thus increase its efficiency in cleaning it.

Manufacturers have long preferred sulfates do carry out this task as they only cost pennies to produce and have limited side-effects.

However, they do have side-effects the first of which is they can certainly irritate the skin of those already susceptible to skin disorders such as people with dermatitis, psoriasis or eczema. If you find yourself in one of these groups and your skin is irritated for no apparent reason, more so than normal, then you may want to try swapping out your normal shampoo for one that isn’t based on sulfates.

The next side-effect effects us all. The sulfates will strip your hair of its natural oils during the cleaning process, it will also do this to the scalp and dry it out. This could easily lead to skin flaking away in what is otherwise known as dandruff.

You could try using Argan oil to rehydrate the scalp. There are two types of Argan oil available one is made especially for cooking and one is made as a hair and skin product. You will of course want to use Argan oil made for hair and skin.

If you choose to use a non-sulfate shampoo then you will find that the cleaning agent is more than likely going to be fruit-based and as such will have no side-effects. However, they tend to be more gentle in nature and so are especially suited for cleaning coloured hair for example, but you will find that because of the journal nature you may need to increase the number of times you wash your hair in a week.
